I've Never Even Picked Up the Book

I'm sure the reaction I just received from most of you after reading the title of this post was something like, "What?!" or "Are you kidding me?!" and "Where the heck has she been?!" Really, where have I been? Yes, I know, I'm kind of freak for having never read any of the Twilight series. In fact, I considered starting the first book a couple years ago when my aunt Patti from Jersey recommended it to my sisters, Mom, and I while we were visiting her and Grandma O'Connor in Midvale, UT. It wasn't until probably six months later that I noticed more people starting to read it. My mom and sisters had gotten a little head start after my aunt mentioned the books. Then before I knew it, every female I came in contact with had either finished reading it or was in the process. But I had been working on The Work and the Glory and didn't want to put that series on hold to start another one.

And now, here I am - never having touched one of the Twilight books and still not finished with The Work and the Glory. So I guess my question is, should I still go see the movie? I've always been one to read a book before I see its movie remake. But quite honestly, I'm feeling a little left out of all the Twilight madness! Almost every girl I know has read the entire Twilight series, and I have no clue what it is even about.

A few good things about me seeing this movie in the near future is
1) I enjoy fun fiction like this and I think it looks pretty good,
2) I'll atleast know what the story is about and if I feel like starting the series, and
3)
I'll get to see my dear friend Cedric Diggory play his first leading role after his tragic death in the fourth Harry Potter movie.

So what do you think? Should I make some time for the book and get it read before watching the movie? Or should I just go see the movie anyway?

Hi Alli!

Kent, Ashley and I went to the Twilight screening in Salt Lake last week (a little perk for owning a movie theater!) and we loved it! I have to tell you that I was a little unsure of how it would be because it's a very small film company and sometimes the movie sort of ruins the book but I really felt like this was well done. One of the things that impressed me the most is that you definately do not have to read the book to enjoy this movie. Kent hasn't gone anywhere near the books and he really liked it. It has a little bit of everything in it - action, romance - so it's not just a "chick flick". Anyway, there's my opinion for what it's worth!

Read the book first! You will start to read it and will read it in less than a week... maybe even a few days. it is fun and addicting! Start reading it now, and then go see the movie the weekend after it comes out! I personally don't think the movie looks that great... even though I loved all of the books... But I will see it and I hope they prove me wrong!

hi hunny! your blog is SOO cute. but you are a crazy one for not reading the book yet. haha. I am just overly obsessed with it. so i vote read it! but i guess if you see the movie first thats okay as long as you do read it. it is wonderful and amazing and you will fall in love with edward. Dan has had to come to terms with that. ;)

I haven't read it either but my experience is that the book is always WAY better than the movie so if I read the book first, the movie was just disappointing. If I watched the movie first then I was thrilled with the book and still liked the movie. But that's just my experience!

I would suggest reading it first. I read it within like two days...so just do it!

You probably don't even have time to read the book! If you do, read it first. But honestly I think you should just not even worry about it. Yeah they are good but maybe going to see the movie will just make you want to read the book afterwards. I haven't read the fourth book yet and people think I'm crazy but I just haven't had time. I've found other things more important. BUT... the books are amazing!!!

I say you start reading the book now. you will likely have the first book read before the movie even comes out on Friday. I swear you will like it better if you read the book first. The movie only covers the first book so you don't have to read the whole series. If you get into it, you will probably be up all night reading it. haha. good luck

Read it for sure!! It is a quick read and well worth it. If you can read it before you watch it I would. Either way it will be good, just so you are in the loop when EVERYONE is talking about it :)

ok- so, I'm probably going to be struck by lightning for telling you this (or atleast shunned by my friends) but I didn't really love the book. You may like it, who knows. It doesn't get interesting until about page 379. Plus, I just thought it was really drippy and not really well written. I have only read the first book, though, and I've heard it gets better in the later ones. Here's my advice: Just go see the movie. If you get curious and have extra time later, you can always read it then. Good luck!

I'm really not sure how everyone else feels about it, but I know that I loved the books and I'm not sure if I'm going to like the movie judging by the previews. Having said that, previews never do a movie justice, do they? Either way you do it, if you don't like the movie, you should still read the books because they are awesome. :)

I pretty much agree with the different things everybody else said....it's a quick easy read (because it's just that good)...but at the same time...do you want to read it, have it fresh on your mind..then see the movie and it not be what you might expect and then be disappointed....

I say..just go see the movie with everybody else... love it.. then..when you have time read the books...they rock!

ps. I don't think your the only one who hasn't read them...last year when we were roommates.. I think only Sydney and I had read them. Since then I know Heather has..but I don't know about the other girls...it just comes when it comes... and I bet you'll love it!

MISS YOU!!!!!!!

I can tell you I was having the same dilemma until last night when I finally picked up book one of the series! :) I am going to see the movie this weekend and well I didn't want to feel left out either so I did it, I gave in and snagged the book....It is a very quick read and I got through a third of it in one night! I would read it first Alli! :) it's a good one!

You should definitely read it first! I saw your facebook status and knew immediately what movie/book you were talking about! :) The book will seriously only take a few hours to read, I think I read it in like 3 days. So do it during the week when Tyson isn't there and you'll have it done by the time you see him! If you love sappy love stories with perfect men in them then you have to read it! Cute blog by the way! I hope everything is going great for you! When's the big day?

I love the books, and I am guessing you can't go wrong with the movie! Me and some family are going to the movie soon, and I can't wait!

Hey, well I am in the same boat as you (sort of). I read the first two books and thought they were okay but I didn't get all crazy over them like most girls I know. If you want to know my opinion Edward and Bella kind of drive me crazy. Many people may think I am crazy for saying that but hey that is how I feel. I have never gotten around to reading the last two books. I would say just go see the movie if you want to. I don't think it will ruin the book, but hey I have never seen the movie so I am not sure what they put in it. I am rambling now but anywho I think you will enjoy the movie either way.
